Activity Types

Every activity in ContactDrive has a type — a call, an email, an event, a donation. Types are what let you filter a timeline down to "just the meetings" or report on how many texts went out last month.

Your workspace starts with a sensible default set, and you can add your own.

Adding a type

  1. Go to Settings > Activity Types.
  2. Click to add a new type.
  3. Fill in:
  • Activity Type — the name, as it appears in dropdowns.
  • Description — what this type is for. Worth writing; it's the thing that stops two people creating "Meeting" and "Meetings".
  • Action — this one trips people up. The action is the phrase that appears next to a contact's name on their timeline, so it has to read like the end of a sentence. "made a donation", "filled out the Volunteer form", "attended the town hall". Not "Donation".
  1. Save.

The new type is immediately available when logging activity, on imports, and on webhooks.

Editing and deleting

Use the actions menu on any row to edit or delete a type.

Deleting is the one to be careful with. Activities already recorded under that type don't vanish, but the type they point at does — so think of deleting as something you do to a type nobody has used yet, not as cleanup on a type with years of history behind it. Renaming is almost always the better move.

Where types come from

Not every type is one you made. Some apps install their own when you add them — the Donations app brings a Donation type with it, and the Email Marketing app brings the full set of email events (sent, delivered, opened, clicked, bounced, spam complaint, unsubscribed). These appear in your list alongside your own.
