Connection troubleshooting

Trouble Connecting to ContactDrive?

If ContactDrive isn't loading, or you're seeing a warning like "Your connection isn't private", "This site can't be reached", or the app loads but feels frozen or disconnected — this guide will help you get back in.

The most common cause is the network you're on, not ContactDrive itself. Public Wi-Fi networks at schools, corporate offices, museums, hotels, airports, coffee shops, libraries, conference centers, and hospitals can sometimes interfere with apps like ContactDrive in ways that block certain functionality.

Quick fixes (try these first)

These solve the issue in the majority of cases. Try them in order.

1. Switch to a different network

If you're on public or shared Wi-Fi, turn off Wi-Fi and use your phone's cellular data (or tether your laptop to your phone's hotspot). If ContactDrive loads on cellular, the issue is with the Wi-Fi network — not with ContactDrive or your device.

This is the single most reliable test, and the single most reliable fix when traveling.

2. Complete the network's sign-in page

Many public Wi-Fi networks require you to accept terms or sign in through a "captive portal" page before they'll let you reach other websites. Until you do that, every secure website (including ContactDrive) will appear broken.

To trigger the sign-in page:

  • Open a new browser tab and go to a simple non-secure site like http://example.com  or http://neverssl.com
  • The network's sign-in page should appear — accept the terms and try ContactDrive again

Some networks (especially at museums and hotels) require you to re-accept the terms every few hours, so if ContactDrive worked earlier and stopped working, this may be why.

3. Try an incognito or private browsing window

Open ContactDrive in an incognito/private window:

  • Chrome / Edge: Ctrl+Shift+N  (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+N  (Mac)
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P  or Cmd+Shift+P
  • Safari: Cmd+Shift+N

If ContactDrive works in a private window but not a regular one, your browser has cached a bad state. Fully quit your browser (not just close the tab — quit the application completely), reopen it, and try again.

4. Check your device's date and time

If your device's clock is wrong, secure websites will appear broken. Make sure your date and time are set to update automatically:

  • Mac: System Settings → General → Date & Time → "Set date and time automatically" ON
  • Windows: Settings → Time & Language → Date & Time → "Set time automatically" ON
  • iPhone / iPad: Settings → General → Date & Time → "Set Automatically" ON
  • Android: Settings → System → Date & Time → "Set time automatically" ON

5. Restart your device

A full restart clears stale network configurations, DNS caches, and connection state. It's worth trying before assuming something more complex is wrong.

If it's still not working

Check if it's just you

Try loading ContactDrive on a different device on the same network (your phone, a colleague's laptop). If it doesn't work there either, the issue is with the network. If it does work on the other device, the issue is with your original device.

Disable VPN or antivirus temporarily

Some VPNs and antivirus programs (Kaspersky, ESET, Bitdefender, Avast, Norton) include "HTTPS scanning" or "web shield" features that can break secure connections. Try temporarily disabling these and see if ContactDrive loads. If it does, you can re-enable the antivirus and add ContactDrive to its trusted sites/whitelist.

Try the ContactDrive mobile app

If you're on a network that keeps interfering, the ContactDrive mobile app is often more resilient than the web version on restricted networks. Available for iOS and Android.

Restricted networks

Some networks are intentionally restrictive and may block ContactDrive even after you've signed in. The most common culprits:

  • Corporate / employer Wi-Fi that filters business apps
  • School / university networks with strict content policies
  • Hospital / healthcare networks
  • Government building Wi-Fi

If you're on one of these and need ContactDrive to work, you'll typically need to either use cellular data, a personal VPN, or ask your IT department to allow contactdrive.io .

Still stuck? Contact support

If you've tried the steps above and ContactDrive still won't load, please reach out to support with the following information — it helps us diagnose the issue quickly:

  1. Where you are (home, office, coffee shop, hotel — and roughly where geographically)
  2. What network you're on (home Wi-Fi, office Wi-Fi, public Wi-Fi, cellular)
  3. What you see — a screenshot of the error or warning page is ideal
  4. The exact error code if there is one. On a "your connection isn't private" warning, click "Advanced" or "Show details" and look for a code like NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID
  5. What browser and device you're using
  6. Whether it works on cellular (turn off Wi-Fi and try)

We'll get back to you quickly.
