Customizing the Sidebar
ContactDrive makes it possible to customize nearly everything in your database, including the appearance and order of the sidebar icons.
The Sidebar pane controls the order of items in your workspace's left-hand navigation.
Reordering
Reordering the sidebar is an admin task. If you don't see Settings > Sidebar, ask an admin on your team to make the change.
- Go to Settings > Sidebar.
- Drag the items under Sidebar Order into the order you want.
- Click Save Sidebar. Nothing is saved until you do — if you navigate away first, your changes are lost.
Put what the team uses hourly at the top. If most of your people live in Tasks and visit Settings twice a year, the sidebar should reflect that.
One order for the whole workspace
Sidebar order is a workspace setting, not a personal one. An admin sets it once and everyone on the team sees the same order. Rearranging it changes the sidebar for all of your users.
Role-based visibility
What does differ from person to person is which items each person sees. The sidebar only shows the items a person's role gives them access to, so two people looking at the same workspace can see different lists in the same order. The Apps link is the clearest example: it sits at the bottom of the sidebar, below a divider, and only admins see it. That's also why Apps doesn't appear in the drag-and-drop list — its position is fixed.
New apps
Installing an app that adds a navigation item drops it into the workspace's sidebar, at the bottom of the reorderable list. It won't necessarily land where you'd like it, so a new app is a good moment to come back here and put it in its place. Removing the app takes its item back out again.
