Using ContactDrive Apps Through Your AI Assistant

Several ContactDrive apps can be used through your AI assistant as well as from the app itself: Connect, Tasks, Lists, Email Marketing, and Dashboard.

Two things have to be true

An app's abilities show up in your assistant when:

  1. The app is installed in the workspace. Install it from Apps in your sidebar, as usual. Installing or removing an app changes what your assistant can do straight away. You don't need to reconnect.
  2. You granted that app's permissions when you connected. Each app has its own group on the consent screen, for example Tasks or Email marketing. If you unticked one, reconnect and leave it ticked (see Managing and Disconnecting AI Connections).

Your role still applies on top of both. You can only do through the assistant what you could do in the app.

Connect

Permissions: Read Connect sessions and Create Connect sessions.

  • List your Connect sessions, or open one.
  • Create a session from a group of contacts. Describe the people ("everyone tagged Volunteer in Ohio"), and the assistant finds them and builds the session. A session built this way can hold up to 5,000 contacts.

Your assistant sets up the session. You make the calls in Connect, as usual. In Claude and ChatGPT, a contact table shown in the chat can include a Create Connect session button.

See Using the Connect App.

Tasks

Permissions: Read tasks and Create, update, complete, and reschedule tasks — never delete them.

  • List open tasks, for example those due this week or for a particular contact.
  • Search tasks by words in the title or notes, and open one, including its subtasks.
  • Create a task, optionally linked to a contact, assigned to someone, and given a due date.
  • Update a task's title, notes, due date, priority, assignee, contact, or tags.
  • Complete a task. A recurring task creates its next occurrence, just as it does in the app.
  • Snooze a task to tomorrow or next week.

The assistant can't delete tasks.

Lists

Permissions: Read lists and their membership and Create and manage lists and their membership.

  • List your lists, or just the lists a particular contact is on.
  • Open a list and see its members, including their do-not-contact flags.
  • Create a static list, or a dynamic list based on a tag, a saved view, or all contacts.
  • Rename a list or change its owner.
  • Add contacts to, or remove them from, a static list. Removing someone from a list doesn't touch the contact.

The assistant can't delete lists.

Email Marketing

Permissions: Read email campaigns, templates, and their reports and Create and edit DRAFT email campaigns — this does not allow sending them, which stays in ContactDrive.

  • List campaigns and open one, including its content.
  • See results: sends, opens, clicks, bounces, and clicks per link.
  • List your email templates.
  • Draft a new campaign, optionally from a template.
  • Revise a draft. Once a campaign is scheduled or sent, it can't be changed this way.

Your assistant writes the draft. You choose the audience and send it. No AI connection can choose recipients, send, schedule, or send a test. After the assistant saves a draft, it gives you a link to the campaign in ContactDrive, where you pick the list, tag, or saved view and send.

Dashboard

Permissions: Read dashboards, their widgets, and the saved views behind them and Build and edit DRAFT dashboards — publishing them to the workspace stays in ContactDrive.

  • List dashboards and open one, including the current figure for each widget.
  • Build a draft dashboard. Describe what you want in words, or share a sketch or screenshot with your assistant, and it creates the widgets and lays them out with your real numbers.
  • Revise a draft: add or change widgets, remove one, or rearrange the layout.
  • Create and edit the saved views that widgets are built on.

Drafts are only visible to people who manage dashboards. You publish it from the dashboard's Manage menu; the assistant gives you a link. Nothing it builds is shown to your team until you do.

Every figure is calculated with your own permissions. If a widget draws on data your connection can't read, it shows as denied rather than showing a number.

If you only want a number and not a saved dashboard, just ask the question ("How many contacts joined last month?"). The assistant can answer without creating anything. See What an AI Assistant Can Do in ContactDrive.

Other apps

Other apps, including the email platform syncs, enrichment, Forms, Advocacy, and Dispatch, aren't available through an AI connection yet. Use them in ContactDrive directly.
